Mya, a participant in Global Skills Transition to Work (TtW) program, wasn’t sure of her career direction once she finished school. She had been working in retail while studying but eventually found herself looking for something new. “I wasn’t clear on what I wanted to do because I had so many interests and hobbies,” she shares. “That’s when the support from TtW really helped me.” Mya has now successfully reached and passed her 6-month employment milestone.

Mya joined Global Skills’ TtW program at Lake Haven in mid-2023. She remembers, “I found TtW really helpful because it caters to my age group. Plus, my Employment Consultant, Nikita, was amazing. She’s so easy to talk to and very helpful.”

With the support she received, Mya explored various industries, attended short courses and enjoyed weekly group sessions. “I really liked the group sessions,” she says. “Everyone was able to share their thoughts and we learned a lot while building important skills to prepare for work including interview skills and writing a resume.”

After exploring different industries and identifying her skills, Mya decided she wanted to work with children. “I’ve always got on well with kids, and I had some experience from doing martial arts. My sensei would ask me to come in an extra day each week to help train the younger kids.”

In mid-January, after a successful application and interview, Mya began working at CatholicCare’s McKillop Catholic College in their After School Care program.
