August 1-7 is National Homelessness Week. Today and every other day in Australia, there are over 116,000 people experiencing homelessness for numerous and complex reasons.
Global Skills is aiming to make a difference to the lives of those within our communities who are struggling with homelessness by identifying new partners and connecting them to our existing welfare connections to provide direct, hands on support in areas which we operate.
We are proud to partner with ‘The Good Box’, a social enterprise who create the personalised care boxes for people experiencing homelessness across Australia.
Three years ago, two inspiring young women created the organisation. Their enterprise has now delivered over 5, 500 boxes to people across Australia.
They quote, “The boxes are a vehicle to an important conversation which can help some of the most isolated people in our society to be more likely to seek and accept assistance.”
We reached out to our close charity partners including ‘Hands & Feet’ and ‘the Vien Giac Temple’, who will each receive a Global Skills donation of 50 boxes over the coming weeks. These organisations will distribute the boxes to those most in need in their street based and outreach programs.
Rebecca Nicholls, Global Skills Director stated, “Given the additional demand on charitable organisations in the local areas we service, due to the Sydney wide lockdown, our staff were keen to identify additional ways to support our local communities and partners”.
Each Winter Box contains; warm woolly socks, a hand-woven beanie, a hoodie, a scarf, gloves, food, a toothbrush and toothpaste plus lip balm.
