Congratulations to Carly, a job seeker from Global Skills Baulkham Hills, on reaching your 6-month employment milestone!
At 47, Carly joined Global Skills Prisoner Release Program in December 2023, via the Corrections NSW Work Readiness Program. Her goal was to find full-time work and prepare for her return to the community after five years of being justice involvement.
Carly shared, “My Work Readiness Consultant and the team at Global Skills supported me to build my work skills. I completed a White Card course and a Forklift course, and I also obtained my photo licence. With all this in place, I was ready to apply for jobs. After being justice involved for 5 years, I’d lost touch with how to apply for jobs—everything changes so quickly. Most applications are online now. The Work Readiness Team and Global Skills gave me the guidance I needed and the confidence that there are employers out there who want to hire people with my skills, including those who have been justice involved. I received financial support, emotional encouragement, and the motivation to keep pushing forward. The idea that while you’re not employed, you can continue polishing your skills and gain new skills to make you even more employable is fantastic.”
Carly worked hard to increase her skills and soon secured a full-time position as a Store Person. Global Skills and Work Readiness made sure she had everything she needed to start, from work clothing to an Opal Card. We’ve stayed connected for 6 months and are pleased to see Carly thriving in work.
Carly confirmed, “I am definitely enjoying work. I work with good people and that makes all the difference. The people I work with make you look forward to going to work every day. I am in a good company, surrounded by good people. My hours are great and I’m paying the bills. Global Skills gave me the support and encouragement I needed to go out into the workplace and seek employment and because of my success, I’ve been able to begin my new life.”
