Congratulations to Global Skills Fairfield job seeker, Javid, for securing a traineeship at The Bread & Butter Project, Australia’s first social enterprise bakery.
Javid, 33, joined Global Skills in December 2023 after arriving in Australia as a refugee from Afghanistan with limited English skills and knowledge of how to apply for work in Australia. With support from Fairfield Employment Consultants Yousif and Ahmad, he was referred to Navitas Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) to improve his English skills. AMEP is a free service for eligible migrants and humanitarian entrants to improve their English skills and settle into Australia. Once Javid was established in his English classes, Yousif referred Javid to The Bread & Butter Project, where he successfully secured a traineeship.
With further support provided from Global Skills with travel expenses and a work uniform, Javid started working on 13th May and has since thrived in his role. He recently shared with Yousif and Ahmad, “I have been really enjoying working and feel that work has helped my motivation and confidence. I have made friends at work, built connections, and I am improving my skills which is improving my independence.”
The Bread & Butter Project is a social enterprise bakery founded in 2013. They reinvest 100% of their profits into providing training and employment pathways for refugees, like Javid, who aspire to become bakers.
Congratulations Javid from the entire team at Global Skills and thank you for sharing your story.
