“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, a great experience. I’m learning so much,” said Mohamad, a participant in Sydney Metro’s Pre-Employment Program (PEP) who secured ongoing employment.
Global Skills is Sydney Metro’s lead jobactive provider. Soon after Mohamad Raad (24) joined us, our Project Coordinator, Tanya Fraga, identified him as a great candidate for the PEP.
Mohamad said, “Tanya is amazing, she’s really cool to talk to, she knows a lot and gives good advice on career and personal development. She knows how to motivate you. Tanya helped me get into the Pre-Employment Program and I’m really grateful for that. I’ve learnt a lot from the program.”
Mohamad obtained a Statement of Attainment in Construction during the three-week PEP and commenced full-time work with John Holland in May 2021. He has since completed a Certificate II in Civil Construction is now studying for a Diploma in Construction Management at Western Sydney University.
Currently working and studying from home due to lockdown, Mohamad said, “I am studying on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and working on the other days. It’s pretty full on – working and studying – juggling it all, but I’m doing all right.
“I love my job. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, a great experience. I’m learning so much, especially in a company like John Holland.”
Mohamad has about six months of study to complete his Diploma and, with the support of John Holland, he plans to continue onto a Bachelor of Construction Management. He said, “I really love working with John Holland. They want to see me advance my career through the company, which I am really excited about.”
Mohamad also expressed gratitude for the support he received from Global Skills. “I would definitely recommend Global Skills. They’re really helpful. Anything you need for work they will try to help you as best they can. They helped me with clothing, car registration, a green slip and fuel, all of which I needed to participate in this program. They gave me a great head start in my career.”
Congratulations, Mohamad! We are proud of what you have achieved.
