This week is Transgender Awareness Week, observed annually from 13–19 November, leading up to Transgender Day of Remembrance on 20 November.
As a proud supporter of ACON’s Welcome Here Project, Global Skills is committed to making a positive impact in our communities for all LGBTQIA+ people. This includes raising awareness of transgender and gender diverse individuals, the challenges they face and how we can all be better allies.
Trans and gender diverse people make up an estimated 2% of the population. This means cisgender people are in a strong position to be allies to the trans people in their lives. If you’re looking for resources to help, TransHub provides guidance on how to be a supportive ally.
Launched in 2020 by ACON, TransHub is a digital platform that offers useful information for trans people, their loved ones, allies and healthcare providers. The site covers social, medical and legal aspects of gender affirmation, as well as advice for allies—whether you’re a partner, friend, parent, employer or colleague. There’s a section for clinicians working with trans people, a helpful language guide and easy access to various resources.
