Amba Little loves that her employment allows people with disability to stay in their own home and maintain their independence.
Amber is employed by NDIS provider, Assured Independent Living Services, as a support care worker and cleaner, visiting clients in their homes to provide the care and support they need.
“All my clients are lovely, happy-go-lucky people and we have developed a great bond,” she said.
A source of that bond and connection is derived from Amba living with a disability herself.
“I was diagnosed with a brain tumour that could only be treated with chemo and radiation therapy. This year will be three years since I stopped treatment but I have been left with lingering side effects. Like my clients, I have had to adapt and be resilient,” she said.
Margaret Pearl, General Manager of Assured Independent Living Services, knew Amba would be a perfect fit for their organisation as soon as she met her.
“She is very, very committed and the clients love her,” she said.
“Her background in aged care as well as her willingness to take on more responsibility has made her one of our most valued employees.”
Amba was supported by our St Marys Disability Employment Service Team to map her skills and experience to her ongoing job goals and then tailor her CV.
Global Skills funded Amba to complete a First Aid Course, obtain a copy of her Birth Certificate, Working with Children Check, Criminal Record Check then provided interview preparation, travel and fares support to interviews and finally brokered her introduction to Margaret Pearl and her business partner, Kate Monteiro, at Assured Independent Living. Over the past three years Assured has employed seven job seekers from Global Skills.
Congratulations to Amba on her 12-month anniversary with Assured and our thanks to Assured for their continued support of our job seekers.
