As more Global Skills staff obtain their Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certificate, it creates an opportunity for us to expand on the many ways Global Skills promotes the mental wellbeing of our job seekers.
In addition to the provision of mental health first aid, Global Skills provides support for mental health in the workplace and partners with a number of specialist mental health services.
Staff across a number of our teams have their MHFA Certificate. With thanks to Mental Health First Aid Australia, Vigil Training College and Trainer Cameron Stone, Global Skills staff can assist someone experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves. All our staff provide mental health support via regular check-ins and connecting our job seekers to appropriate mental health support services and resources.
Global Skills works with employers to provide support for employees with mental health challenges. We provide appropriate support in the workplace and work with employers to accommodate mental health conditions. This may include modified work environments or hours. We also play a role in educating employers on the benefits of hiring employees with mental health conditions.
Global Skills partners with a number of specialist mental health services including Uniting NSW/ACT, LikeMind and CatholicCare.
Our GSPlus telehealth service, in partnership with Uniting NSW/ACT, provides our job seekers with quick and free access to a range of qualified allied health professionals, including registered psychologists, via phone or video.
LikeMind (delivered by Uniting NSW/ACT) appointed Global Skills as their Vocational Consortium partner for their Seven Hills and Penrith offices in 2016. Global Skills provides customers of LikeMind individualised employment and training support, working alongside LikeMind’s allied health and community specialists, to secure ongoing and meaningful employment outcomes.
Global Skills partnership with CatholicCare supports young people’s mental health on the Central Coast. Our young people have access to professional counselling services. Support options include telehealth and in person appointments.
