Global Skills Job Search Series

Global Skills understands that navigating different websites and services online to support your job search is not always easy. To assist, we are pleased to offer our online Job Search Series including tips, tools, links and advice to help you find your next job.

Part 1: Set up a MyGov Account and link to Workforce Australia
The first in the series, will help you create a myGov account then link your account to Workforce Australia. As a job seeker, you will need to have a myGov account. This is a simple and secure way to access online government services and is used to sign in to your Workforce Australia Online account. For easy to follow steps and video tutorials go to:https://www.globalskills.com.au/job-search-series-set-up-a-mygov-account-and-link-to-the-australian-jobsearch-service/

Part 2: Set up your Career Profile and Job Alerts
The second in our series, will help you create your career profile and set up job alerts on Workforce Australia Online. A profile helps you connect with businesses and see jobs that match your skills and experience. If you set up job alerts, you will get an alert when a job is listed that matches your preferences. For easy to follow steps and video tutorials go to, https://www.globalskills.com.au/job-search-series-set-up-your-careerprofile-and-job-alerts

Part 3: Write a Resume that Suits your Individual Needs
Resume is a word you’ll hear a lot during your job seeker journey. A resume is a document that lists your experience, education, skills and achievements and is considered essential information to give to an employer so they can weigh up whether you’re suitable for a role. The third in our Job Search Series will show you how to write a resume that best suits your individual needs. For tips and templates go to, https://www.globalskills.com.au/job-search-series-write-a-resume-that-suits-yourindividual-needs/

Part 4: Choosing Referees for your Resume
It’s important to choose your referees carefully because while you can promote yourself in your job application and interview, you have no control what your referees may describe about you. Many recruiters and employers will expect you provide a list of work or personal referees before they offer you a position. The fourth in our Job Search Series will help you choose suitable people to use as referees regardless of your
work experience. For tips on choosing the right referees go to, https://www.globalskills.com.au/job-search-series-choosing-referees-foryour-resume/

Part 5: How to Write a Cover Letter
Unlike a resume, which is an objective overview of your qualifications, a cover letter gives you the opportunity to show your personality. It’s your chance to explain in your own words, why you are the best person for the job, why you are enthusiastic about the role and what value you can add to the organisation. The fifth in our Job Search Series will answer some common questions we receive about cover letters. For an easy to follow step-by-step guide to writing one plus a list of handy tips, go to, https://www.globalskills.com.au/job-seeker-series-how-to-write-a-cover-letter

Part 6: How to Dress for an Interview
Did you know that what you wear to a job interview makes a first impression, long before you speak a single word? The way you present yourself at a job interview says a great deal, including if you fit the style of the company. So, while it’s important to prepare what you are going to say in an interview it’s also important to think about what you are going to wear. The sixth in our Job Search Series is a guide to putting your best foot (and shoe) forward when dressing for a job interview. For tips on choosing your interview outfit, go to https://www.globalskills.com.au/job-seeker-series-how-to-dress-for-aninterview

Part 7: How to Ensure Your Video Interview is Virtually Perfect
Many employers are now conducting job interviews via video. Others may invite you for a pre-interview using video, so they can see if they would like to progress to a face-to-face meeting. The seventh in our Job Search Series includes steps you can take to ensure your video interview is a success on the first take — because unlike TV or the movies you usually don’t get a second one. For video interview techniques and tips, go to https://www.globalskills.com.au/job-search-series-how-to-ensure-yourvideo-interview-is-virtually-perfect

Part 8: 10 Common Interview Questions and How to Answer Them
If you’ve got a job interview coming up, there are some questions you’re bound to be asked— regardlessof the position or industry — as these questions are used to learn more about you, both as a person and a potential employee. The eighth in our Job Search Series lists 10 common interview questions along with the best way to answer
them. For tips on answering common interview questions, go to https://www.globalskills.com.au/job-search-series-10-common-interview-questions-and-how-to-answer-them/

Part 9: Top 5 Interview Techniques to Help You Get the Job
If you’ve applied for a job and been invited for an interview it means you tick all the right boxes in terms of qualifications, skills and abilities. But the chances are that there are other applicants who tick the same boxes. How well each of you perform during the interview process will decide who gets the job offer. The ninth in our Job Search Series covers the top 5 interview techniques that will help you stand out and
increase your chances of getting the job. For techniques including our bonus tip, go to https://www.globalskills.com.au/job-search-series-top-5-interviewtechniques-to-help-you-get-the-job/

Part 10: Harnessing the Power of Social Media to Land a Job
Did you know that social media can be a powerful job search tool? With an increasing number of employers using social media as a recruitment tool, it’s a great way to connect with employers. You can connect with opportunities you didn’t know existed and may never have discovered any other way. The tenth in our job search series explains how can you harness the power of social media (and avoid the
pitfalls) to help you find the job you want. For social media job search tips, go to https://www.globalskills.com.au/job-search-series-harnessing-the-power-ofsocial-media-to-land-a-job/
